Erik Poppe to direct ‘Bad Moon Rising’ from first (and only) film script by Jon Fosse

February 23 2024

World-renowned filmmaker Erik Poppe will direct Bad Moon Rising [working title], a feature film by Jon Fosse, with a manuscript (Fosse’s first and only!) written 26 years ago and minimally adjusted since. The film will be produced by Paradox Films.

The story follows a couple from their first meeting, through their relationship including a son, to their separation and how they deal with it. It will have a contemporary setting, with Poppe describing it as a “timeless piece”.

“This script has this nerve, this longing for a different way of presenting its story that I feel is really interesting,” says Poppe.

We’re excited to see how Jon’s work comes to life on-screen! There’s been a great deal of interest in bringing his books to the silver screen as well – more to come.
